Training Course in the Spotlight - Caring at Christmas
Part of our ongoing Training needs analysis has been consulting with individual carers and groups on what future training sessions could support them in their caring role. One of the main topics to come up before the festive period was how much Christmas has changed for someone with a caring role and at times it isn’t the happy, joyful time of year it is portrayed to be.
From this, staff members from Lanarkshire Carers Centre developed a bespoke 2 day ‘Caring at Christmas’ course.
Day 1 offered an opportunity for carers to discuss how Christmas has changed for them, practical advice on help and support available throughout this period and also some information on how different cultures celebrate Christmas as well as a workshop on learning how to say ‘no’.
Day 2 included a mindfulness session by Martin Stepek who offered practical solutions for dealing with stress and anxiety.
19 carers in total attended and the feedback was excellent. We arranged the final session in the same week as our Winter Dance which was an excellent way for carers to round off the week.
