Training Opportunities

Lanarkshire Carers Centre’s carer training programme covers a range of topics to help carers feel confident in their caring role and look after their own health and wellbeing. When someone’s caring role is new, our Steps of Caring Programme provides useful information and helpful contacts. Our training programme provides a range of condition specific sessions and topics that address issues identified by carers throughout the caring journey. When a caring role changes or ends our Moving Forward from Caring Programme supports carers to deal with loss and change and move on to services better placed to meet their needs.

The courses we deliver are listed below. You can also sign up to our mailing list and we will contact you when further training opportunities become available.

At Lanarkshire Carers Centre, we try our very best to ensure that carers get access to as much information and training opportunities as possible to help them in their caring role.

We provide free of charge training courses to ensure that no carer will ever be unable to attend due to financial reasons. However, there is a cost to us and for some courses it can be considerable. We understand that as carers, something can arise which would prevent you from attending a pre-registered course.

If you are unable to attend please contact us as soon as possible. Many of these courses have a waiting list and unless we know, we are unable to offer your place to someone else.

We are excited to announce that we will be working with Tricky Hat Productions to launch: The Diamonds: a pilot project

which will culminate in a performance on Friday 21st June 2019 in Hamilton Racecourse.

No experience is necessary, just a willingness to get involved.

This is a fantastic opportunity for carers to meet new people, develop their acting skills, increase their confidence and self esteem, but most importantly try something new.

This Training programme is an information session for carers of people with dementia. It is based on research suggesting that information and skills training can be as helpful in reducing carer stress as counselling and support groups.

The training is designed in complete consultation with the carers who will be attending, ensuring that the information provided is appropriate to their needs.

Please note that the person you care for is welcome to come along to this session. To allow for some privacy during sensitive discussion, the cared for person will take part in some stimulating activity coordinated by one of the experienced Alzheimer coordinators in a separate activity room.

You can enjoy your training session know that the person you care for is safe and well looked after.

Laughter Club involves a person laughing. They simply laugh out loud even if they don’t feel like it, at first. People initially make themselves laugh out loud. This is called ‘voluntary’ laughter. Then after a while, people start to laugh for real and soon everyone is having a great time. As you are laughing, there will also be a series of light exercises. There will be some gentle yoga and other light physical exercises. Therefore, as you are laughing you are also getting a workout. Some of the benefits of Laughter Yoga are:

  • Makes you feel fitter
  • Reduces stress levels
  • Reduces your risk of depression and anxiety
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Lowers your blood pressure
  • Make you feel more energetic

But most of all it is Fun!
